Dr. Tan graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1981 and has over 40 years of medical experience spanning public healthcare, private practice, and national service. He began his career within the Ministry of Health, serving in major public hospitals including Singapore General Hospital, KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital, and Toa Payoh Hospital, where he gained broad clinical experience in Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Medicine, and ENT.

He subsequently transitioned into private practice as a General Practitioner and Resident Medical Officer, and in 1987 founded Excelsior Clinic & Surgery, building it into a long-standing community medical practice with a strong reputation for consistent, patient-centred care.

Dr. Tan also served with distinction in the Singapore Armed Forces, attaining the rank of Major and receiving several service awards, including National Serviceman of the Year (2000). He later continued public service as a Senior Medical Officer with the Singapore Civil Defence Force.

He is a Certified Designated Factory Doctor and remains actively involved in the delivery of comprehensive primary care. In his free time, Dr. Tan enjoys fishing, gardening, some DIY projects and spending time with his family.
